Brazil loses a great writer - Lya Luft

Angélica C

Lya Luft was from southern Brazil, initially had her work recognized as a translator of works by great names, such as Günter Grass and Rainer Maria Rilke.

In 1980, she began her literary career with her first successful book "As Parceiras", a novel that describes a family marked by neurotic relationships and madness, approaching themes of marriage, sexuality, loneliness and isolation from a female point of view.
In 2003, she published "Perdas e Ganhos", her biggest success, which sold nearly a million copies and remained on the lists of best-selling works in Brazil for more than two years.

Lya Luft died at her home in Porto Alegre, on 30 December 2021, from melanoma.
