Useful American-English expressions which make you sound like a native speaker!

Ayda Atrzadeh

Hello dear Learners,

I decided to start a series of short posts on useful and common American-English expressions based on various topics. Every post introduced only a few expressions to make remembering and learning them easier for you.

Don't forget to Repeat, Practice, Produce and Repeat again,
It's the Rule of Thumb, Or I'd like to call it that ;)

Well Let's start with this one

Rule of thumbmeans

a broadly accurate guide or principle, based on practice rather than theory
example: You shouldn't run right after lunch, It's a rule of thumb, you might feel sick!

Let's see what other expressions have body-part words in them.

A Chip on your Shoulder - means

You have a grievance of some kind—or an attitude—that you won't let go of.
Example:
Have you met Max? That guy has a real chip on his shoulder. He's always a
bit arrogant and on the defensive.

How about a bit higher like the HEAD

Head over Heels - means

To be deeply in love or attracted to someone <3
example:
Josh is head over heels for Janice, He is someone else when he's in her presence.

Well, I guess that's enough for this post,
I hope you use them often in your speech and now you can also notice their use while you listen to or watch movies or series in English.

Alrighty then, have fun learning!
