Gerunds are words that end in “-ing” and act like nouns in a sentence. They can be used as the “doer” of an action, the “receiver” of an action, or to describe something. For example:

Jogging is great exercise. (doer) • I love jogging. (receiver) • One of my favorite activities is jogging. (description)

This is just an example. I don’t like jogging.

Gerunds are often used after words like “by,” “for,” “in,” “of,” and “on.” Here are some examples:

• I’m interested in learning English. • She’s really good at playing the piano. • He said sorry for being late.
