It’s been a while since I posted anything and that’s because I got my first cold of the year and was sick for about a week. I lost my voice completely for about 4 days and had to take some time off (thank you to everyone who rescheduled a lesson!). Anyway, since I last posted at the end of October, fall has faded away in Canada, and it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas already!
The first day of winter is December 21st, at least officially, but it basically feels like winter starts in Canada as soon as Halloween ends. On the night of October 31st this year, the temperature dropped as low as -6 in my area, and by November 1st, many stores had replaced their Halloween and fall decorations with Christmas trees and lights. “Retail Christmas” starts early!
After almost two weeks of telling my wife “No, it’s too soon,” I eventually gave in and put up our Christmas tree on November 13th, but I’ve stubbornly kept the pumpkins in my office area because I’m not ready to admit that fall is over. Now, as we approach the end of November, many trees are completely bare, and it feels like it could snow at any time. Perhaps it’s time to put the pumpkins away and embrace winter and Christmas.
What makes you think “Oh, it’s finally winter!”? Is it the cold weather? The holiday lights and decorations? Some kind of seasonal food? I guess for me it’s when my toes finally get cold enough that I need to turn on the heat in my apartment haha! We’re not there yet, but it’s sure getting close…
