Vitumbuwa or Zambian fritters is a deep-fried dessert made in Zambia. It is basically a flour-based mixture which is deep-fried in oil similar to a doughnut but it is more spherical in shape and smaller in size than the average dougnut. Sugar may or may not be included in the recipe, it all depends on the cook! It is usually eaten with hot or cold beverages. For example one could have some vitumbuwa during teatime alongside a warm cup of tea. Very tasty!

Some choose to make their own vitumbuwa at home but it is also sold by individual street vendors in town walking around with big buckets full of the delicious treat and at marketplaces. It is a well known and liked product so the hungry customers can't help but buy some as they wander through town. This tasty Zambian treat is definitely worth trying.
