Hello everyone, I have returned from my summer holiday. I went to Poland for 10 days. It was a wonderful trip! I will tell you a little about it.
I mostly stayed in Kraków, which is one of Poland's most historical cities. It used to be the old capital before Warsaw. A lot of Poland's cities were damaged during the 2nd World War, however, Kraków was saved. So, there are a lot of historical, old buildings. I was very impressed with the beautiful architecture. There is also an old royal castle which was interesting to visit. You can see the old state rooms, and crown jewels.
Besides Kraków, I did a pilgrimage for 6 days! It was with an organsied group. We walked 150 kilometres to another town, Częstochowa. There is an important monastery there, which was our goal. I did the pilgrimage because I have a Polish friend who does it every year, and I decided to join her. It was a great experience because it was only local people, so I was able to meet a lot of Polish people and learn more about local life and culture.
I also visited Auschwitz, the Nazi concentration camp which is not far from Kraków. It was of course a very harrowing and depressing place, but still I think it's important to visit if people get the chance.
Finally, I visited the Tatra mountains which border Poland and Slovakia. They were very beautiful, great if you enjoy hiking!
If you have been to Poland or you are interested in discussing more, feel free to take my English conversation lesson! We can have a chat, and I will correct any mistakes and explain vocabulary and grammar if you need help.
