When do you think the "ability to summarize" can be useful?
When you read a long article or other document and want to convey its contents to a third party in a nutshell, or as a quick memo to look back on afterwards... This is the most likely the impression that everyone has of “summarizing.”
Of course, this is also true. However, there is more to summarising than just this, and the “ability to summarize” is a much more basic and practical skill.
It may be easier to understand how this works, if we follow the process of “summarizing.”
① Read the text (which is often long) → ② Understand what the main point is →　
③ Summarize it in an easy-to-understand manner → ④ In some cases, explain it to a third party.
It is tempting to think that only the skill at point ③ is the “ability to summarize,” but those who actually have the full “ability to summarize” also have the skills to conduct point ➁ at the same time. In fact, by being confident in points ➁ and ③, the hurdles to ① and ④ can be much lower than for those who are not confident in them.
None of the skills from ① through ④ are easy for everyone, but once you have the “ability to summarize,” all of these can be turned into your “area of expertise.”
We read so many texts on a day-to-day basis, whether we want to or not. For those of you out there who sigh when you encounter a long sentence, why don’t you change your life so that you can take the stance; “a long sentence? Sure I’ve got it! I’ll take it!”
It is not only about input → output of texts.
Summarizing is useful for company presentations, business meetings, learning from videos and audiobooks, daily conversations with loved ones...The skill to summarize can also be useful for audio information.
The only difference is changing the “① Read the text” to “① Listen to the audio.” Audio information is more troublesome than text as it disappears one after the other once it is spoken. It requires the ability to comprehend and summarize “while remembering.”
Why not also work on input →output of audio information simultaneously?
I enjoy reading and writing. I also love to listen to other people’s stories and make notes to convey them to a third party in an easy-to-understand manner.

① 1st lesson: Developing your text input → output skills
→ Read a long article or thesis and summarize in writing what the main points are.
(If you choose a real-time lesson, you can use a summary memo you prepared beforehand to explain the outline of the text to me).
② 2nd lesson: Working on audio input → poutput
→Listen to a video (about 30 minutes from YouTube) and give a verbal explanation on the outline.
(If you choose a real-time lesson, you can explain to me during the lessons; if you choose an offline lesson, please send me your recorded explanation of the outline.)
③ 3rd lesson: Develop the ability to express yourself in words that inspire others
→Read a short article and give it an attractive title that captures the main point but also makes people want to read it.
(If you choose a real-time lesson, I will show you the article during the lesson.)

Cancellation of pack lessons

• 'Unstarted' lesson packs(1) can be cancelled any time. Used Points will be completely refunded. If a 'started' lesson pack(2) is cancelled, you will be refunded 50% of the price of the remaining lessons provided that the lessons are unrequested, unconfirmed or not within 24 hours of their scheduled start times.
(1) A lesson pack for which none of the requests have been confirmed by the tutor.
(2) A lesson pack with at least one confirmed request. (By confirming the date and time for the first lesson in the pack the tutor confirms the pack as a whole and coupons are automatically issued)

Cancelling individual requests in a pack

• If you wish to cancel a single lesson that belongs to a pack but not the whole pack, you can do so via the request page. In this case, the coupon used to book the lesson will either be refunded or collected, based on the tutors single-lesson cancellation policy. Please note that any 50% partial refunds in the tutors single-lesson cancellation policy do not apply to lesson packs and the tutor may choose to either refund or collect the coupon in those cases.
