- We use can to say that that something is possible or allowed or that somebody has the ability to do something.
The negative is can't (conjunction of can't)
Teachers example to show:
- We can see the park from our house
- I don't have a pen
You can use mine - Can you speak any foreign languages
- The word dream can be a noun or a verb
- We are able to see the park from our hotel
But can has only two forms:
Can (pesent) and could (past) so sometimes it is neccessary to use (be) able to
Compare:
I can't sleep
VS
I haven't been able to sleep recently
Tome can come tomorrow
VS
Tom might be able to come tomorrow
Maria can speak English and Japanese
VS
Applicatns for the jobs must be able to speak two languages..

e.g. can/(be) able to
She ___ drive, but she doesn't have a cat.
I used to ___ stand on my head, but I can't do it any more.
