Do Singaporeans speak English? Why is it that I don’t understand them?
The answer is yes! We speak English! But most of the time, we speak Singlish - Singapore English. It’s our casual and usual way of talking.
Some people thought that going to Singapore would be no problem since we speak English! But when they get there, they realize they have a hard time understanding what we’re saying, and they needed time to adjust to the way we talk and the pace we speak at.
Singlish is not just an accent. It’s our sentence structure and the different languages in Singapore mixed into the English language = Singlish!
In this class, I’ll teach you everything you need to know about Singlish - the expressions we use, how we talk, and what all those nuances like ‘lah’ or ‘lor’ means. Singlish is not just about ending every sentence with ‘lah’. It’s much more sophisticated than that.
This class is good for people who are interested in learning about our language and for people who are about to move there, and would like to practice listening and speaking Singlish, or just plain learning more about this unique language.
