Q. Hi CoachXavier! Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. May we ask you to briefly introduce yourself?

A. Hello, and thank you for this opportunity. I'm Xavier, a French tutor on Cafetalk and the co-founder of a non-profit environmental organization. I'm 29 years old and I am Swiss, so it's no surprise that I have a deep love for chocolate and hikes!

Q. Please tell us more about your hometown and the area where you currently reside.

A. I grew up in Geneva, a small and peaceful city renowned for its lake and international ambiance. Having lived in both the Middle East and Asia, I currently reside in a charming town in the countryside of Georgia, within the United States.

Q. What motivated you to become a tutor on Cafetalk?

A. While living in Geneva and abroad, I had the opportunity to teach French face-to-face classes. However, with extensive travel becoming a regular part of my life, I wanted to continue to share my passion for the French language through teaching. That's when I discovered Cafetalk, which provides incredible flexibility and ease-of-use for online teachers like me.

Q. What are you usually up to when you're not teaching on Cafetalk? What are your hobbies and interests?

A. When I'm not in the classroom, I'm developing and executing environmental projects to combat single-use plastic pollution through the environmental organization I co-founded with my partner. During my free time, I'm an avid reader of French literature, Albert Camus being my favorite author. I also like to stay informed by keeping up with the news and relaxed by watching Netflix or hiking in nature.

Q. A lot of students are probably curious about the atmosphere in your lessons. What can a student imagine a lesson with you to be like? What’s your teaching style?

A. Whether my students are new or regular, beginners or advanced, introverted or extroverted, they all experience learning French with me in a highly motivating and enjoyable environment. In each lesson, I ensure that my students feel comfortable, maintaining a pace that is neither too slow nor too fast, and tailoring the content to suit their individual levels and expectations.

Q. Which lessons would you recommend to your students?

A. I like to compare learning French to constructing a house. For absolute beginners (A1), I usually recommend my beginner class, which helps build solid foundations for any other lesson types.

For A2 to C1 students who already have strong foundations, it's all about the student's objectives. Are you learning French for a trip to Paris? I suggest my conversation class. Preparing for a French test? Consider the grammar lesson I offer. Want to enhance your pronunciation? Let's work on that through the specific lesson I've developed for that skill.

Some of my students simply want to have enjoyable conversations about topics like travel, cooking, or TV shows without a specific goal. All they have to do is let me know what they'd like to discuss. I'm highly flexible and naturally enjoy these types of lessons as well.

Q. Finally, would you like to leave a message for your current and future students?

A. I would like first to congratulate my current students for their dedication and efforts put into learning French. I also wish to thank them for their feedback that helps me improve the quality of lessons week after week. I also want to thank them for their natural cheerfulness that makes each lesson really enjoyable and fun.

To my future students, if you would like to make steady and tangible progress learning French while finishing each lesson with a feeling of accomplishment and pride, I would be happy to meet you very soon in the classroom for our first lesson together.
