Hi everyone! My name is Marino (マリーの) and I'd like to tell you a little about myself.
My background is Croatian but I have been living in Australia for most of my life. I am good at speaking Croatian and English and have been blessed with understanding both languages well. As a child my family and I spoke mostly my mother tongue, however, being raised in Australia from a primary school age I was able to quickly learn the language especially as I loved watching cartoons on TV.
I studied International Hospitality after high school and worked in numerous hotels both big and small. This helped me to meet and talk to all kinds of people from many walks of life as well as work with staff members from many nationalities.
This then progressed to going overseas to work in Japan as an English instructor where I spent a number of years working in Tokyo teaching adults and school aged students. My teaching encompassed everyday conversation classes, business classes, grammar focused lessons, IELTS/TOEIC/TOEFL exam preparation. Working with young people involved activities and games with English focus and getting used to patterns in the language that could be used easily.
After moving back to Australia I spent more time learning about teaching and have spent the last decade working in a TESOL college working with students from all nationalities from all over the world from elementary level to Advanced as well as continuing with specialty courses designed to propel students on to University degrees and Masters programs.
English learning like any language is challenging, tricky and sometimes hard. On the other hand, it can be fun, awakening and rewarding at the same time and I can be there to help you delve into the different sides of the language that can seem daunting at first. Taking a step-by-step approach and working together, we will be able to achieve your goals in learning the language through a number of different approaches that best suit your needs.
