Having lived in several countries and learned the local language, I can appreciate how difficult it can be to master a foreign language and how much I benefitted from the support offered by teachers. I want to give back by helping you to gain a high level of confidence in advanced English conversation. After all, languages are fascinating creatures!
Grammar is a particular point of interest to me, and I am happy to explain nuances of verb tenses or idioms. For example, right now it is raining cats and dogs outside while I am typing, do you know what that means?
I attended Oxford University at just 17 years old, and anyone who has been through that admission process knows just how tough the interviews are. If you have upcoming job interviews, or are applying to a university yourself, I can help support you in doing a great job.
Having spent many years working as an editor of scientific texts in major publishing houses, I can also help you with writing or proofreading of something you have written. Scientific writing has its own particular style, and I am very familiar with it!
I pride myself on being flexible, and tend to mould the lesson around your needs. Especially if you are willing to do some homework, we can spend time in class focussing on points that you find confusing, and encouraging you to try using the new material yourself. This form of active learning is the best way to master a language I feel.
Other interesting facts about me: I have an adult son who lives in Amsterdam, I sew my own clothes and take photographs as my hobbies, along with dancing, reading and watching a wide range of films, and I have a black belt in aikido.
