Hello, my name is Madoka Mooney.
I am a jazz singer and vocal/piano instructor residing in NY, USA.
After graduating from Musashino Academia Musicae with a degree in vocal music, I worked as a part-time solfege instructor at a music school and as a jazz vocalist in Tokyo.
I moved to NYC in 2004 and studied jazz vocals in private lessons with Carol Fredette, Miles Griffith, and joined workshops with Barry Harris and Jay Clayton. I have been taking private lessons with Giacomo Gates since 2020, where I am learning more about how to groove in jazz and practice English pronunciation in depth.
For four years from 2006 to 2010, while I was living in NYC, I participated as a jazz vocalist every Friday and Sunday at Greenwich Village Bistro in Greenwich Village, performing with Mike Camoia (tenor saxophone) and other NY musicians, experiencing the wonder of authentic jazz and interacting with jazz music on a daily basis.
In 2012, I moved to the suburbs of New York State and have been teaching piano and vocal lessons to both children and adults at local music studios and private lessons, as well as performing as a jazz vocalist at local music festivals and restaurants.
The reason why I decided to offer lessons to people in Japan, is because Japanese pronunciation and English pronunciation have completely different structures, from the way the throat is used to the way the sound is resonated (resonance), so I wanted to share these differences with people who want to learn jazz vocal but are struggling with English pronunciation or having trouble singing in a natural tone.
My lessons are designed for those who want to learn the feeling of swing in jazz with natural vocalization through standard pieces of jazz.
I would be rejoiced to share what I have learned after living in New York for 18 years with everyone in Japan who wants to sing English songs or learn jazz vocals.
I look forward to meeting you in my lessons.
