Greetings,
My name is Lydia Mendivil and I am excited about the opportunity to teach you! I have 22 years of teaching experience and normally teach English and Spanish , though I am quite flexible and eager to stretch and "mix it up" if you are! I am passionate about teaching and am a patient, enduring and diligent teacher.
I was born in the United States of America and am a native English speaker but also have Latin America in my blood as my father is from Bolivia. During my childhood I traveled widely, living in Europe, Bolivia, and South Africa before finally settling in the US. I graduated from college in the year 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and minor in Latin.
I spent many years as a Spanish teacher in private schools but have also taught art enrichment courses in public schools and (more recently) both English and Spanish online via several platforms. I have experience teaching both very young children (ages 3 and up) and also adults.
Presently I am teaching both conversational Spanish and conversational English to all ages. In these courses we can practice your speaking to help you improve by choosing a topic of interest (my suggested lesson title of "Health and Fitness" is one option) for us to discuss. We can also work on specific exercises to help improve your grammar, vocabulary, etc.
For adults, I have taught Business English, free talk, IELTS preparation, and many conversational classes at all levels from beginner to advanced. For children's English lessons, I have extensive experience with Vipkid and Magic Ears where I used stories, pictures, games, dialogues, role playing, and much more! In teaching children I use flashcards, pictures, whiteboards, games and other props to instruct them in grammar, vocabulary, culture, and conversation.
I suggest "Health and Fitness" as a subject because I have been passionately engaged in fitness my whole life, though I am not formally trained as a fitness coach, exercise teacher or personal trainer (though I could be). I run marathons and ride my bike long distances.
Drawing is another passion of mine, which is why I also offer drawing classes.
In addition to teaching, I also enjoy swimming, nature, gardening, books, movies, spending time with family, school, sewing, music, piano, science, animals, hiking, camping, desserts (yum!), clothes shopping, games and more.
I hope to see you in one or more of my classes soon!! Learning and teaching are fun for me and I will make it fun for you as well!!
Teacher Lydia
P.S. STUDENTS MAY REQUEST OTHER TIMES AS MY SCHEDULE IS QUITE FLEXIBLE.
