Hello. I am Miyo, an abacus tutor. I would be delighted if I could help children improve their skills through abacus lessons.
 
＊＊＊＊　What kind of a tutor am I?　＊＊＊＊
 
I lived in Cambodia for 15 years and did volunteer work there. I was inspired by the humble but cheerful people of Cambodia.
 
While volunteering, I taught Japanese and arithmetic at a supplementary elementary school. Prior to that, I had worked as an abacus tutor in Japan. I have experienced the satisfaction and joy of being involved in children’s education from time to time.
 
Through abacus lessons, I would be glad to help children get certified in abacus and learn to love and be good at math.
 
＊＊＊＊　What kind of lessons do I offer?　＊＊＊＊
 
Lessons are tailored to each individual students’s level.
 
I will teach you the correct way to move your hands and abacus beads. This is because it affects accuracy and speed.
 
I start from helping students learn multiplication by 99 from the beginning of the lesson. This is because it is essential to memorize the multiplication rules in order to take examinations. In Japanese schools, students learn multiplication in the second semester of second grade and division in third grade.
This is a good way to help children learn to like and excel in math.
 
 
◆Mock exams will be held periodically.
The examinations can be taken at the nearest Chamber of Commerce.
Even if you live overseas, you can apply to take the test when you temporarily return.
 
＊＊＊＊　What materials will be used in your lessons?　＊＊＊＊
 
We will mainly use the “Chibikko Abacus Series (ちびっこそろばんシリーズ)” textbook.
This textbook has been edited with the following points in mind:
 
(1) Study of “elementary math (さんすう)“, which is necessary to learn abacus.
(2) An introduction to the abacus with illustrations of hands and abacus beads in new learning situations.
(3) Various cuts are used to make learning fun.　
 
In addition to improving abacus skills, this textbook is full of elements that will help you improve your math skills. If you live in Japan, I recommend that you purchase this textbook.
