Hi. I’m Li. Nice to meet you!
I was born and raised in the Philippines, and I speak English and Filipino.
My mother was a highschool English teacher and she started teaching me English when I was 3 years old. In my school, we also used English for ninety-percent of the subjects. That's why I consider English as my first language.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Before, becoming an online English teacher, I was in the fashion retail industry where I handled franchising, operations management, process improvement, and customer service training.
I started my online teaching career in 2017 and I have more than 9,000 hours of teaching business English, mainly to Japanese students.
I learned so many things about Japanese culture from my students -- visiting the shrine on New Year's day, eating osechi, drinking under the cherry blossom trees, and so much more! This made me want to visit Japan very much. Luckily, I got the chance to go to Kyoto in 2019.
I’ve helped many beginner, intermediate and advanced students with their English presentations, job interviews, emails, MBA interviews, English test reviews, and more. They say that it’s easy for them to understand my accent and pronunciation.
My 15 years experience as a manager in the fashion retail industry and my MBA degree also gives me insights which I can share with other business professionals.
TEACHING STYLE
My teaching style is more conversational than formal. Rather than focus on perfect grammar, my goal is to make my students functional when it comes to using English in whatever situation they’re in.
I want my students to learn more natural expressions and understand nuances of certain words so they don’t end up offending the person they’re talking to.
For that reason, I often use role playing in my classes. I'm also flexible when it comes to the materials which my students want to use.
I also practice the 80:20 rule because I want to give students more chances to speak while I listen and ask questions.
Why don’t you book a lesson with me? I’d love to hear about your goals for studying English and discuss how we can work together to achieve them.
