Hi everyone! My name is Carleton Cole and I'm from the USA. I live in Jacksonville, Florida and I've been teaching English for over nine years. I have a Master's degree in Journalism and have also worked as a newspaper editor overseas. I love travel, cooking, writing and going on walks. I've written and published several travel stories and other articles in newspapers. I've also been to over thirty-five countries and written and published two books on travel.
I worked as an English, History and Journalism teacher at Mahidol University International School from 2015 until 2018 in Thailand, and also as an English teacher in the GAC program at Sarasas Extra school from 2015 until 2018, preparing high school students to take the international ACT university admission test. I transitioned to online teaching since 2021, having taught successfully on various platforms like Cambly, Engloo, NativeCamp and others. I also taught English, helping in orphanages and environmental conservation in Kathmandu, Nepal from September 2009 until May 2010. While living in the US, I also worked as a tutor at Emerson College from September 1998 until May 2000 where I read and critiqued articles written by undergraduate journalism students.
I am a kind and patient teacher and I like to get to know the student's learning style and adapt my lessons accordingly. I make my lessons very student-centered, focusing on what the student's learning needs and goals are. I like to give students feedback during the lesson in a positive way, so that students can learn from it. I also let students speak freely and let them know that making mistakes is part of learning a language, and that it is also useful to make mistakes sometimes, so we can learn more from them. Overall, I focus on building a healthy and positive relation with each student I meet.
