How to Apply

My Town, Valencia

Valencia is Spain's third largest metropolitan area after Madrid and Barcelona, with a population ranging from 1.7 to 2.5 million depending on how the metropolitan area is defined.
The city is situated on the banks of the Turia, on the east coast of the Iberian Peninsula, fronting the Gulf of Valencia on the Mediterranean Sea. Its historic centre is one of the largest in Spain, with approximately 169 ha (420 acres); this heritage of ancient monuments, views and cultural attractions makes Valencia one of the country's most popular tourist destinations.

Due to its long history, this is a city with numerous popular celebrations and traditions, such as the Fallas, which were declared as Fiestas of National Tourist Interest of Spain in 1965 and Intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in November 2016.

The City of Arts and Sciences complex was designed by the architects Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela and it is 5 minutes walking from my aparment!

Valencia is known for its gastronomic culture. The paella was born in here! Other traditional dishes of Valencian gastronomy includes fideuà, arròs a banda, arròs negre (black rice), fartons, bunyols, the Spanish omelette, pinchos or tapas.

Valencia was also the birthplace of the cold chufa beverage known as horchata, delicious!

My family and my home

I live with my husband, Arjun, who is from India. We are a multicultural couple. At home we cook mainly Mediterranean food (Spanish, Italian) but we enjoy eating other kind of foods like Indian, Japanese, Turkish, Arabic, Thai...
We have a guest room with two single beds. There is a bathroom outside the room that would be only for the student, since we have our own bathroom inside our bedroom. Our apartment has a sunny balcony and a big terrace at the back, and it is 5 minutes walking to the City of Arts and Sciences.
There are 3 supermarkets less than 5 minutes walking from the apartment, as well as pharmacies, bus stops, restaurants, etc. Our apartment is non smoking and the only rule we have is respect and love :)

Transportation

If you like riding a bicycle, Valencia is your city! There is a nice bike path that connects the whole city, and you can rent a bike or a scooter very easily. I will help you to arrange everything.
If you want to go downtown you have four options:

  • walking (40 minutes)
  • cycling (15 minutes)
  • eScooter (15 minutes)
  • taking the bus (30 minutes)

I will pick you up/drop you off at the airport or train station in my car. In case I am not able to do it (the car broke, or Im sick) I will organize a pick up at the airport (a fee will be applied).

Climate

Valencia has a subtropical Mediterranean climate with short, very mild winters and long, hot and dry summers. If you come in spring or autumn bring a little bit of everything, since the temperature changes throughout the day. Dont forget your swimming costume if you come in summer!
