 Brown is often very nervous before exams.
 
Are you nervous too when you hear the /b/ and /v/ sounds?
 
No worries. Let us practise these sounds together.
 
Objectives of this lesson:
 a) Practise the /b/ and /v/ sounds
 b) Identify the difference between these two sounds
 
 
Step 1: Tongue twisters
 
 /b/ sound - Betty Botta bought a bit of butter. “But,” she said “this butter’s bitter. If I put it in my batter, it will make my batter bitter.” So Betty bought a bit of better butter, and it made her batter better.
 
/v/ sound - Vowels vanish in my mouth; I vow that I must stop them from vanishing before they vote that I leave this place. 
 
Step 2: Let us try the pronounce /b/ sound
 
a) To make the /b/ sound:
 - Close your lips tight.
 - Push air forward in your mouth.
 - Open your lips and release the air quickly, while using your voice. 

b) Now we will try say these words with the /b/ sound

Boat        Best         Bolts       Cabs    Rebel    Bow     Buy

Step 3:  Practise the /v/ sound

a) To make the /v/ sound,
 - touch your top teeth with your bottom lip
 - blow out air between your teeth and lip
 - Use your voice while releasing the air

b) We will try some words with the /v/ sound

vast     void    five    every     vivid    vacancy      vehicle

Step 4 : Fun quiz
 We will do a fun quiz on the /b/ and /v/ sounds. If you hear the /b/ sound, show thumb up and if you hear the /v/ sound, show thumb down.

1. Varisa loves badminton but prefers it to volleyball.
2. Ben went to the beach with Vanessa in his new vehicle.
3. Vlad bought a new violin for his brother's birthday.
4. Betty loves the violet vest best.

Step 5: Practice of sentences
Read aloud the following sentences.
 - The knight bowed to the queen and vowed to protect the kingdom till his death.
 - We went on a biking tour of Venice and learned about its vital history.
 - Bonnie bought a boat with Vlog and they both went abroad.
 - The valet said that there was a big ban on the use of vans at the party.

Step 6: Complete the gap.

    - Valerie is a _londe girl.
    - I need to ha_e a _reak from all.
    - This story is a_out a terri_le ro_ __ery.
