Preparation for an English interview is essential.
In this lesson, you will practise common questions for any interview in English.
Objectives:
1. Practise to respond orally in English for any interview
2. Familiarize with questions in English
At the beginning of this session, it is essential to carry out a diagnosis so that specifc strategies can be devised to help you out.
At the end of this lesson, you would be very much familiar with the interview questions and hopefully be selected for the job.
Step 1: Let us discuss on the problems/fears you have whenever you prepare yourself for an interview in English.
Step 2: Write or tell me two expectations that you have from this lesson. We are going to come back to these two at the end of the lesson.
Step 3: Let us begin with personal questions (i.e. about you, your life)
The questions are as follows:
1Tell me about yourself.
2How would you describe yourself? (character/personality)
3Are you married? Single? Do you have partner?
4What are your qualifications?
5What training have you had since leaving school / college?
Step 4: Strengths and Weaknesses/Hobbies/Choice of job
6What are your strengths/weaknesses?
7What do you do in your free time? What are your hobbies? / Do you have any hobbies?
8What kind of work are you looking for?
9Why are you interested in working for our company? Why do you want to work for this company?
10What type of position do you think you are suited for / would suit you?
11How would you describe the position we have to offer?
12Have you ever done this kind of work before?
13What aspects of the position are you most / least interested in?
14What would you like to find in this job that you didn't have in your previous job?
15How do you think you could develop the position? What would be your strategy to develop the position?
16What have you got to offer us? What could you contribute to our company?
Step 5:Past Experiences
17What do you think you gained by working in your last job?
18What were you responsible for? What did your job involve?
19Why did you choose this career?
20What do you think of your (last) boss?
21Why do you want to leave your present job? Why do you want to change jobs?
22Did you leave voluntarily or were you made redundant? Why were you made redundant?
23Why were you out of work for so long? Why have you had to look for a job for so long? Why have you been looking for a job for so long? Why did it take you so long to find a new job?
24Have you received any offers of a job?
25What are your salary requirements? How much would you hope to earn in this position? How much do you think you should be offered for this position? What salary would you expect (to be offered) for this position?
26How do your feel about your future in the profession?
Step 6: Achievements and Initiatives
27What are your greatest achievements/failures at work? Have you had any negative experiences?
28What sort of obstacles have you come across / encountered in your work?
29What did you find easiest/most difficult in your last job? What do you enjoy most/least about it?
30Can you describe a time when you demonstrated initiative in your job?
31If you had to recruit colleagues, what qualities would you look for?
32Would you be willing to relocate/to move to another part of the country/to work abroad?
33Are you willing to undertake training even if this takes place in your spare time?
34Don't you think you have too much experience / you are over-qualified for this job?
35Isn’t this job a step down for you?
Step 7: Your future contribution and comments
36How long do you think you would stay with us? If we offered you this job, how long would you expect to stay with us?
37Which do you prefer : to work alone or in a team? Do you prefer working alone or with other people as part of a team?
38Do you know how to manage a team? Are you capable of leading a team? Do you think you have the ability to be a team leader? Have you any experience of managing staff?
39Why should I recruit you? How could you persuade me to recruit me?
40Do you have any comments to make, or any questions to ask?
