課程介紹
This is a textbook-based course designed for international students, who are preparing to enter or are already enrolled in a university program (particulary American universities).
Please note, this course is designed only for students at an intermediate level or higher. If you are unsure of your level, or don’t know if this class is suitable for you, I recommend doing a 15-minute trial lesson first.
We will use a textbook series called Inside Reading to improve your academic English skills. I highly recommend buying the book for self-study in between classes. If you don’t have the book, we can still conduct class via screen sharing on Skype.
The key to academic English centers around the Academic Word List (AWL). Many English teaching professionals have created a list of 570 words and word families that occur frequently in academic writings. Instead of memorizing this list, it is more efficient to learn and analyse these words in context. The book series Inside Reading is excellent at pacing students and teaching valuable reading and writing skills with this list.
This class focuses on all four skills required for communication: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The textbook centers on reading and writing skills, and in class we will spend time practicing on expressing your opinions.
