The aim of the course is primarily to familiarise students with the conventions and characteristics of academic English in academic contexts. It's specifically designed for those who are interested in improving their writing skills.

Course Description:
The aim of the course is primarily to familiarise students with the conventions and characteristics of academic English in academic institutions.
The secondary aim of the course is to put into practice these conventions and style in order to reduce students’ anxiety when it comes to general academic writing skills.
Lessons are student-centred and provide lots of opportunities for practise.
Here is a rough breakdown of each lesson:
- Review of Homework (15 minutes)
- Presentation of Content (20 minutes)
- Writing Workshop (25 minutes)
Teaching Plan:
1. Paraphrasing: Topic: Avoiding Plagiarism. Content: Practise conveying academic information or outside sources correctly.

3. Signal Phrasing: Topic: Learn to Incorporate and Use Quotations. Content: Practise using a wide variety of quotation techniques in order to avoid plagiarism.
4. Introduction Paragraph. Topic: Choosing a Topic and Structuring your Introduction. Content: Learn how to write the most important paragraph of your essay.
3. Signal Phrasing: Topic: Learn to Incorporate and Use Quotations. Content: Practise using a wide variety of quotation techniques in order to avoid plagiarism.
4. Introduction Paragraph. Topic: Choosing a Topic and Structuring your Introduction. Content: Learn how to write the most important paragraph of your essay.
5. Paragraph Coherence and Body Paragraphs. Topic: Paragraph Unity and Topic Statements. Content: Linking ideas and sentences.
6. Writing Conclusions. Topic: Learn What To Do and What Not To Do when writing Conclusions. Content: Summary skills and indentifying the main points.
7. Referencing: Topic: APA or MLA Writing Guide. Content: Formatting according to MLA or APA formats.
Lessons 8, 9 and 10 will be used for revision purposes as well as to help and assist students to go over key writing points that they might be struggling with.
