Jerry Tutor Interview
- Q. Hi, Jerry. I heard you live in Japan now. How is the life in Japan?

A. About 2 years ago, I have came to Japan and lived for a year. So, it is easy and quick for me to get used to the life in Japan. Now, I have been in Osaka for almost 3 months. For me, Japan is a very clean country and Japanese people treat foreign very well. Therefore, I like Japan very much.
- Q. You’re also good at English, not only Japanese. How have you learned some languages?

A. I learned English from Junior high school as most people in Japan. However, the teaching method in our school is different. In our school, we use English magazines as text books and focus on speaking and speaking. In terms to Japanese, I have lived in Japan for a year. During that time, my Japanese was poor, but I still went out with my Japanese friend. If I have something that I don’t understand or have mistakes, my friends will tell me immediately. Therefore, I can remember Japanese naturally.
- Q. I’m interested in your lesson, ”英語と日本語で中国語を始めましょう” The lesson seems that we can also learn English! Please tell us about the lesson.

A. It depends on what students want to learn. At first, I will ask them what your interest is and what your purpose about learning Chinese is. According to their answer, I will prepare the material of the lesson. For example, I have taught a student who is interested in Taiwan’s singer, so I use the singer’s songs as materials to teach him.
- Q. You’re from Tainan, Taiwan. Could you explain about the city?

A. Tainan is a traditional city. There are lots of old buildings and you can learn a lot of Taiwan’s history in Tainan. Besides, Tainan is very famous of its delicious food such as擔仔麵,蝦捲,蚵仔煎. Please come to Tainan and enjoy.
- Q. According to your profile, you can teach Taiwanese. What is the difference between Chinese and Taiwanese?

A. The difference between Chinese and Taiwanese is that Chinese is an official language which everyone have to learn. On the other hand, Taiwanese is a dialect and not everyone can speak Taiwanese.
- Q. There are a lot of students who have just started learning Chinese on Cafetalk. What should they do first?

A. I think pronunciation is the most difficult part for Chinese. However, if we focus on pronunciation too much, it is easier to feel bored and give up. There is no doubt that pronunciation is important, but if we can choose some interesting materials such as songs to help us to learn Chinese. It will be easier.
- Q. How do you spend on your day off?

A. I usually have dinner or go shopping with my friends. Sometimes, I will go to karaoke or traveling around.
- Q. Finally, is there anything you would like to share with our students?

A. I think “Never give up” is very important when you learn a new language. Language is very different from other subjects. For example, when we learn Math we maybe need some talent. However, when we learn a new language, just keep learning, we can be better and better. Therefore, never give up and keep going.
