Hello, my name is Jake, thanks for reading my profile.

I am from a town called Telford in the UK but I haven’t lived there since 2011. I now live in the beautiful city of Granada in the south of Spain. I live here with my long-term partner, and I love it.

 

After I left my hometown in 2011 I went to university in Falmouth, a lovely small town in the south of England. Between 2014, when I finished my degree in journalism, and now I lived in many different places. I've lived in six different cities in Spain (including my current city of Granada), I lived for a bit in Italy, Thailand, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Panama and Mexico. As you can tell, I like to travel.

 

In almost all those countries my job has been to teach English. Over the years I've taught both in-class lessons and online. I've taught children as young as three to adults close to retirement. I have gained experience teaching complete beginners to C2 level students. In Spain and Italy I worked in academies, teaching conversational English and exam preparation. In Thailand I worked in a high school and in Mexico I worked online.

 

As a teacher, I try to make classes as relaxed and enjoyable as possible. I have a lot of experience teaching conversational English, so if what the student wants is to be corrected after every mistake I can, but normally I simply make note of any mispronunciations or mistakes and review them after the student has finished his sentence/ speech. That experience in conversational English also means I’m good at teaching expressions, idioms and slang language.

 

I have a lot of experience preparing students for all parts of the Cambridge exams: KET, First, Advanced, Proficiency and IELTS. I am less familiar with the TOEIC and TOEFL exams although I have prepared people for the speaking sections of those exams. I think online classes are perfect for preparing and practising for the speaking sections of exams and I highly recommend students use online classes to gain confidence.  

 

Outside of teaching, my hobbies include:
Writing, I love to write fiction, non-fiction, articles and short storied.
Reading, I'll read anything interesting.
Football (Soccer), I love playing, watching and talking about football.
Hiking, I love finding paths through nature.Music, I listen to a lot of music. I have a record player with a growing collection of vinyls.
