Hi! Hallo! Moin!

My name is Joe and I'm from the north of Germany. I've always enjoyed studying languages, travelling, meeting people from around the world and experiencing different cultures. I lived in the UK for nearly 23 years and in Indonesia for over 10 years. Of course, I've also visited many other countries in Asia and Europe. In 2020, I returned to Germany and now live in Leipzig, in Central Germany.

I love teaching languages which is so much more than a job to me. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy hiking, cycling and swimming, catching up with friends in different parts of the world and keeping up with news from around the world. I like to be well-informed and to have a wide choice of topics for my lessons.


I studied English Literature and Linguistics, Schandinavian Studies and History, and then moved to the UK where I lived and worked for over 22 years. During my time in the UK I obtained a TEFL certificate and, in 2007, moved on to Indonesia. I worked as an English teacher, Director of Studies and Corporate Language Trainer in Jakarta for over 10 years. As a Corporate Language Trainer I also started to teach German, my native language. 


For the past 3 years I've been teaching German online as a Virtual Language Trainer, so I have a lot of experience teaching both English and German at all levels for both general and business use, and for exam preparation.

I can offer you lessons at all levels in both German and English. The focus of my lessons is on three aspects:

Firstly, my lessons are communicative. I give you as much time as possible to practise what you learn, so that you finish every lesson knowing that you have learned something new and feeling more confident.
Secondly, every lesson is about you and your needs. If you're a complete beginner, there are basics everyone needs to study but I will always adapt speed and content to your needs. You may want to visit a German-speaking country for a holiday, you may want to study in Germany or you might have German-speaking partners or colleagues in business. Whatever your reason for studying may be, we will adapt lessons for you so that you can reach your goals.
And if you already have some, or even an advanced knowledge of the language, we focus on aspects of the language you wish to improve and topics that interest you.
Finally, correction and feedback. You can't progress unless you know your mistakes and have feedback to refer back to. I see correction as a very impotant part of the learning process and it's my duty to focus correction on what is important. Feedback, both positive and critical, along with new vocabulary, grammar points or advice on  pronunciation is just as important. Therefore, you will always receive written feedback after your lesson.
