Rooibos and Honeybush tea from the tip of Africa

Weekly Topic: There are many different ways to prepare a tea around the world. How do you usually drink yours?

Teacher Hanne

Rooibos tea and Honeybush tea is made from endemic South African plants that grow in high mountain areas which forms part of the Cape Floral Kindgom (a World Heritage Site). These plants need hot dry summers to grow well. These tea plants have needle-like leaves and can withstand drought. Rooibos tea plants also produce beautiful yellow flowers which turn into pods after the flowering season. Both Rooibos and Honeybush plants are from the Pea family.
The South African word ''rooibos" means red. Honeybush refers to the strong honey scent that the flowers produce.

Many South African people often drink their tea with milk. However, the best way to enjoy the unique taste of Rooibos and Honeybush tea is to enjoy it without milk.

Let me know in the comments if you also enjoy drinking tea made from South African plants!
