端午節 Dragon Boat Festiva

    端午節為每年農曆五月初五,又稱端陽節午日節、五月節等。端午節為中國國家法定節假日之一,並已被列入世界非物質文化遺產名錄。端午節起源於中國,最初是中國人民祛病防疫的節日,吳越之地春秋之前有在農曆五月初五以龍舟競渡形式舉行部落圖騰祭祀的習俗;後因詩人屈原在這一天死去,便成了中國漢族人民紀念屈原的傳統節日。端午節有吃粽子,喝雄黃酒掛菖蒲、蒿草、艾葉,薰蒼術、白芷,賽龍舟的習俗     

The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It is an ancient traditional festival in China and called Duan Wu Jie in Chinese.

This Festival originates from China. At first, it is a festival of eliminating diseases and epidemic prevention. In the Spring and Autumn Period, a famous minister named Qu Yuan of the Chu Kingdom drowned himself into Miluo river on this day, then the festival become to commemorate this minister Qu Yuan.

From that time, people will hold dragon boat race, eat rice dumplings and drink realgar wine on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year in China. So these customs are retained today to in memory of the minister Qu Yuan.

Over all, Dragon Boat Festival is a significant and interesting holiday!
