Speaking practice: Record your voice!

Ayda Atrzadeh

Many might find this technique rather uncomfortable as we all know that we might sound a bit cracky or weird when we listen to our own voice messages and the reaction is never desirable unless you are a singer.

No matter to what extent that can be true, recording your voice is a great speaking practice for self-correction. Those who seek perfection in speaking often find this technique helpful since they model a dialogue or record a vocal diary and listen to it to inspect errors and accordingly enhance their performance

Moreover, for those fearful of others' judgment of their linguistic abilities, this can be a reasonable habit to develop self-awareness about your own speaking skills.

Bear in mind that you don't need to prepare a text and record yourself reading it. You can be absolutely spontaneous. However, you can also choose a topic and think about what you want t say beforehand to have a coherent current of thought.

So it goes like this>

1. choose a topic
2. Think about it for some minutes
3. Find the words you need or check some related grammatical bits
4. Press the recording button and enjoy your free speech

There you go, it is much simpler than you think.
Right afterward (or later on)  listen to it, look for grammatical and pronunciation errors or replace your previously used words with other ones and redo the process.

and REMEMBER, learning the language is more about the process, so enjoy it!
