Associating the FAMILIAR with the UNFAMILIAR to learn vocabulary
This technique means using things you already know and are familiar with to help you remember new words and phrases.
The simplest way to do this is to find a word in your mother tongue that sounds like the English word you want to learn. Associating an English word with one from your native language occurs naturally and is a technique many English language learners use without realizing it.
Another common method of learning words and phrases is to form a picture of them in your mind. These mental images can be as strange as you like. Whatever helps you to remember the word or phrase.
For example: to remember the Hiragana character 'nu' - ぬ, I associated the character with an image of 'some NOOdles.'
Good luck with your English studies!
