Phrasal Verbs on Money

Suja

Phrasal verbs are prevalent in native speech.

However, it can be difficult and impossible for learners of English to remember all of them.

Learning them in context can sometimes help over memorizing them.

In this weekend's column, we'll learn a few phrasal verbs that can be used when talking about money.

cough up - My uncle got arrested for theft and his wife had to cough up $1000 to bail him out
Meaning: pay up

put aside - I have decided to put aside some money for my future as I'd like to by my own house.
Meaning: to save something for later

go under - Many businesses went under in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Meaning: to go bankrupt

cut back - We'll need to cut back on our expenses as dad's lost his job.
Meaning: to spend less money

Take the class to pick up phrasal verbs in context.
