The Color Festival!

Weekly Topic: What marks the start of spring in your culture?

Maynk

The Color Festival (aka "Holi" in India) is probably the single most secular celebration observed across India. It usually falls toward the end of March, but sometimes in early April. Spring is the quintessential season for the long list of summer events specific to India. During this time, entire buildings and streets are often painted with graffiti juxtaposed in a rare kaleidoscope. A true sight to behold!

One important aspect that is frequently linked to this festival is the Climate impact. Just like the festival of lights. the penultimate day of Holi is reserved for the typical Indian maxed-out bonfire event. There are criticisms linked to burning wood and animal waste in these ritualistic processions.
