I have loved Moomin novels since I was a child. There are 9 books in total. Since Moominvalley is located near the sea, scenes of the sea are often depicted.
“Tales from Moominvalley“ is a collection of short stories, and ”The Secret of the Hattifatteners“ is one of them.
It is said that the Hattifatteners have no particular purpose,and they just aim for the horizon. They gather once a year on the summer solstice for a secret meeting. Moominpappa admires this mysterious creature and travels with them on a boat.
It's short, but content of the story is quite deep. I would like to read it near the sea in Finland.
Moomin is also a famous Japanese anime. Although it is based on the novel, there are some changes made to make it more suitable for children. Also, some stories which are not in the original work are added.
I love both the anime and the novel.

私は子供の頃からムーミンの小説を愛読しています。全部で9巻あります。ムーミン谷は海のそばにあるので、よく海の様子が描かれています。
「ムーミン谷の仲間たち」は短編集で、その中に「ニョロニョロのひみつ」というお話があります。
ニョロニョロは特に目的も持たず、ただ水平線を目指していて、年に一回夏至の日に集まって、ひみつの会合をすると言われています。ムーミンパパはこの不思議なニョロニョロに憧れて、一緒にボートで旅をします。
短編ですが、結構深い話です。フィンランドの岬で読んでみたいです。
ムーミンは日本のアニメも有名です。原作ををベースにしていますが、ところどころ子供向けにアレンジされたり、原作にない話が追加されたりしています。
私はアニメも原作も、どちらも大好きです。
