Weekly Topic: The best way to learn from online lessons

Online English lessons are a great way to learn the language, as it can be really fun and useful. It also gives you the chance to study at your own pace and learn from teachers all over the world. To get the most out of your lessons, it is important to have a good plan. Here are some tips to help you.

1. Set Clear Goals
Think about what you want to achieve in your lessons. Do you want to improve your speaking? Do you want to learn new vocabulary? Improve your grammar? Setting clear goals will help you focus. Tell your teacher what your goals are so they can help you reach them.

2. Practice Regularly

Learning a language takes time and practice. Try to practice English every day, even outside of your lessons. You can listen to English podcasts, read articles, or speak with friends. The more you practice, the faster you will improve.

3. Review
After your lesson, take some time to review what you learned. This can mean going through the feedback your teacher provides, rewatching your lesson, if your teacher allows you to record lessons, and reviewing the material of the lesson or completing the homework activity, if your teacher provides you with it.

4. Repeat
Repeating new words and grammar will help you remember it better. You can also write about what you learned or even teach someone else. In fact, according to a theory, developed by experts who studied the effectiveness of different study methods, at the National Training Laboratory, teaching is the best way to make sure you understand everything. This theory is called the ‘Learning Pyramid model’. It explains that teaching others is the best way to study something, as you have to really understand what you just learned in order to explain and teach it to someone else. If you would like to read up more on the theory, you can follow this link to an article explaining it in a bit more detail: https://www.educationcorner.com/the-learning-pyramid/

5. Ask Questions
Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand something. Good teachers are there to help you and will always be happy to help you. If something isn’t clear, ask your teacher to explain it again, or give you more examples. Asking questions helps you understand the lesson better and makes sure you don’t miss important information.

6. Stay Positive
Learning a language is not easy and sometimes you might make mistakes. That is more than okay. Mistakes are part of the learning process. Stay positive and keep practicing. With time and effort, you will improve and learn from your mistakes.

7. Stay Consistent
Consistency is key when learning a language. Try to take lessons regularly, even if it is just once or twice a week, preferably at the same time each week. This helps you build a learning habit. If you take a break for too long, it can be harder for you to get back to your studies. Consistency will help you improve over time and you will feel more confident in your abilities.

8. Give Feedback to Your Teacher
Your teacher is there to help you. If you like something about the lesson, tell them! If something isn’t clear, or if you feel like a certain activity doesn’t work for you, let them know too. Giving feedback helps the teacher understand how they can support you better.

Online lessons can be a great way to learn English, but to get the best results, you need to be positive, consistent and practice often. Set goals, review what you learn and don’t be afraid to ask questions or to make mistakes. With patience and hard work, you will improve your English skills.

Good luck and happy learning!
