GLOBAL WARMING

FIRST:
What is climate change?
What is the difference between climate and weather?
How do we know that Earth's climate is getting warmer?

SECOND:
Has the climate ever changed before?
How much of Earth’s climate is changing right now?
What causes global warming?
Does what we do matter?

THIRD:
How are scientists studying climate change?
How did you learn about it?
What can humans do to reverse the damage done to Earth?
What are you doing to contribute to lessening your carbon footprint?

Useful Vocabulary:

weather: describes the conditions outside right now in a specific place.
climate: describes the weather conditions that are expected in a region at a particular time of year.
warmer:of or at a fairly or comfortably high temperature.
hotter: having a high degree of heat or a high temperature.
satellite: an artificial body placed in orbit around the earth or moon or another planet in order to collect information or for communication.
NASA: National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Earth's sea level: Height above mean sea level
shrinking: becoming smaller in size or amount.
mountain glaciers: bodies of ice that are found in the mountains.
Changes in flower and plant blooming times: The observed changes in flowering time may be mediated by changes in the physical environment, such as soil temperature, soil moisture, or nitrogen availability, that result from reduced plant diversity.
global air temperatures: In earth science, global surface temperature (GST; sometimes referred to as global mean surface temperature, GMST) is calculated by averaging the temperature at the surface of the sea and air temperature over land.
Earth's surface: the outermost level of the land or sea
temperature: average kinetic energy of the atoms of a substance.
human activity: something that people do or cause to happen
greenhouse gases: a gas that absorbs and emits radiant energy within the thermal infrared range, causing the greenhouse effect.
greenhouse gas emissions: the emission into the earth's atmosphere of any of various gases, esp carbon dioxide, that contributes to the greenhouse effect.
greenhouse effect: a process that occurs when gases in Earth's atmosphere trap the Sun's heat.
fossil fuels: any of a class of hydrocarbon-containing materials of biological origin occurring within Earth's crust that can be used as a source of energy.
oxygen: a chemical element that constitutes 21 percent of the Earth's atmosphere: the layers of gases surrounding a planet or other celestial body.
carbon dioxide: a chemical compound composed of one carbon and two oxygen atoms.
harmful: causing or likely to cause harm.
organisms: an individual animal, plant, or single-celled life form.
