What is the strangest thing I have ever eaten? Vegemite comes to mind (I think about it automatically). You may have heard of Vegemite already, and you might have already tried it. Maybe it isn’t that strange, right? But then, what is Vegemite anyway?
Well, it’s black, so many people assume its chocolate. But it isn’t. It really isn’t. Whatever you do, don’t spread it on strong (People usually spread vegemite on bread or toast). If you put a lot on, you’ll have a mouthful of salty and bitter fermented yeast to deal with.
Have I excited you? Disgusted you? I’ll have you know, Vegemite is an Australian national dish. It is used in a variety of ways. It goes well on bread and toast (as I have already mentioned) and people mix it with cheese, avocado and tomato as well. Vegemite can be made into a beverage (I’m not that thirsty to be honest!) and recently has been made into vegemite cheese biscuits, that are voraciously addictive (and make a good bar snack too…).
So a strange condiment to be sure, but one worth a try, if only in small amounts!
