どんな勉強でもやる気は大前提だと思います。どんなにいいテキストや辞書があっても上手に教える先生が側にいても、学習者のやる気がなければうまく前に進まないと考えるからです。そのやる気を維持するために必須なものは「自分にとって魅力的な目的(なんのためにするのか)」だと私は思います。
私を含め長い期間やる気をずっと維持するのは難しいと思う方は、多いのではないでしょうか。やる気が続かない時、休みを入れたりまたは思い切って勉強から一定の期間離れるのはいい方法だと思います。問題はそのリフレッシュ後に勉強に戻れるか否かです。それは「自分にとって魅力的な目的」があるかどうかによると思います。必ずしも立派な目的だったり人が見てすごいねという目的である必要はないのです。
その目的に向かって段階的に目標を立て、それぞれの目標をクリアしていけることでやる気も増してくると思っています。

As learners, whatever we study, I think it goes without saying that motivation is important.
If we don't have the motivation to study, even if we have a good textbook and dictionary, and have a good teacher, I don't think we can efficiently improve. I believe "a compelling goal (why we study)" for each of us is essential to maintain our motivation.
There are probably many learners, including me, who feel it would be hard to maintain one's motivation for a long time. It's good that we take a break or decide to be apart from our studies for a while when we don't have enough motivation. In my opinion, the most important thing is whether we can go back to our studies or not after the break.
I certainly think that's up to whether we have "a compelling goal" or not. I don’t believe it necessarily has to be an impressive one or one that makes people feel good.
I believe that we get motivated by making small goals and achieving each one.
