Choose Your Happy Ending

Weekly Topic: A TV show you watch right now

Jul 5, 2022

I'm a sucker for happy endings. I like to see the protagonist wins and the antagonist gets defeated at the end of a story. The kind of plot that can give us hope that the good prevails,  love lasts, evil can be destroyed or get their punishment and the deserving shall be recognized.  But despite that ideal concept,  I still love watching The Walking Dead.

Clearly, there's no happy endings when we talk about zombie apocalypse. This kind of scenario speaks lots of deaths and betrayal just like in the iconic Train to Busan.  Neverthless, I still get hooked by this long-running TV series for the reason that the elements of surprise and thrill is always present.

After more than a decade of watching it, I've seen lots of heartbreaking scenes and gruesome deaths of my favorite characters. Of course I got disappointed along the way but I still keep on watching. My dismay would soon get overpowered by curiosity of  what lies ahead and as the story unfolds, we grow to like a new character.

The Walking Dead taught me that there's no such thing as happy ending. Endings are always sad and life is not like a Disney movie.  We could be happy in one instance and get sad in another. It's a cliche but happiness indeed is a matter choice, just like our choices of the kinds of shows and movies we watch. We could watch a story that ends happily, sadly or bittersweet. We could choose to get affected by it and remain sad or learn from it and be glad. Let's be careful with our choices for every choice we make makes us.
