How Learning Phrasal Verbs in Context helps you Remember them Better

Suja

Learning phrasal verbs within context is likely to help you remember the phrasal verb better.

Learning a list of phrasal verbs independently from a list and isolated from its context shortens its lifespan in your memory and could lead you to forgetting what you’ve just learnt regardless of the number of phrasal verbs you had picked up.

Take for example,  the following recipe:

Thaw out the chicken for a few hours. Then chop up some carrots , onions and tomatoes. Once the chicken is thawed, mix in the chicken with the spices provided. Add the onions and tomatoes to the pan and lightly fry them until they have softened. Then add the carrots. Add 700 ml of water. Once the water comes to a boil, turn down the heat and leave the chicken to simmer for 30 minutes.

If you love to cook, learning phrasal verbs in this manner, within context, will help you to remember them better in the long run.

See if you know what the meanings of the following phrasal verbs are : thaw out, chop up, turn down and mix in
