Hello, everyone. How are you today? It’s Teacher Asuka.

Today, I'm going to talk about 'Eaton Mess'. Do you know what it is?

'Eaton Mess' is a traditional British Dessert, which has a meringue with strawberries, or berries and cold fresh cream. It is usually served cold. You eat it delicious as soon as it comes out from the fridge.

This sweet has been told in Britain almost 100 years ago and some people say that this sweet came out when picnic was held at the famous British school named Eaton College, dogs came and got the sweet soggy, mothers picked up some fresh berries from the garden and gave birth to this lovely sweet by chance.

Others say that a student at Eaton who put some sweets made by his mother into his bag ran around outside, then the sweets got soggy in the bag. There are several smile-provoking episodes like these.

I'll let you know another sweet with meringue, whose name is 'Pavlova', which is derived from famous Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. This sweet is also made of cold fresh cream and berries, but the 'Pavlova' is not usually meringue broken compared to 'Eaton Mess'. It is said that Anna Pavlova was very fond of this sweet. However, I’ve never tried it yet...

Well, it might be a good idea to have a rest with such a lovely sweet with a cup of tea once in a while.

Thank you for joining me as always.

See you next time.
