Learn English With A Summer Samba

Weekly Topic: What makes you feel that summer has finally arrived?

Ashley Christina

There are numerous things that make me feel like summer has arrived, some of which are outlined in the lyrics of my original song, "Walkin' On Air".

1. "Lyin' in the sun; feel the summer breeze." The feeling of the sun on your skin is warm (or even hot), but the summer oceanside breeze is refreshing, and it cools you off.

2.  "Walkin' on air; lazy summer." Walkin' on air is a metaphorical phrase meaning "extremely happy". During summertime, students get a break from school, so families can often plan vacations during this time, in which they can do activities for pleasure or leisure.

3. "Aroma of flowers." During the summertime, flowers are often in full bloom. For instance, the beautiful plumeria in Hawaii blooms starting in May, which emits an intoxicating scent, as well as adds beauty to the environment.

4. "Hearing nothing but the seagulls and the waves." People often flock to beaches during the summertime, where you can hear the chirps of seagulls and the crash of the ocean waves. This is also a time to enjoy some fun in the sun!
