Michael, What Have You Been Up To Lately?

Feb 8, 2024

Hey there everyone! This is what I have been up to this past few days:

Living as an American in Japan has its fair share of adventures, but let me tell you about one particularly funny and thrilling night in Tokyo.

So, there I was, Michael, your friendly neighborhood Language Training Consultant, ready to unwind after a long day of teaching English. I decided to hit up Shinjuku, Tokyo's nightlife hotspot, in search of some good times.

After a bit of wandering, I stumbled upon a cozy izakaya nestled in a narrow alley. Figuring it was as good a spot as any, I sauntered in, hoping to make some new Japanese friends.

Inside, I found myself surrounded by locals chatting away over drinks. I struck up a conversation with the bartender, whose English was about as shaky as my Japanese. But hey, we made it work, bonding over our shared love for sake.

Before I knew it, I was surrounded by a lively bunch of locals eager to practice their English with me. We laughed, we stumbled through conversations, and we even attempted some tongue-twisters that ended in hilarious disaster.

But then, disaster struck – I realized I'd misplaced my wallet, complete with all my cash and ID. Cue the panic.

Not one to give up easily, I rallied my tipsy comrades and embarked on a mission to find my lost wallet. Picture this: a ragtag group of us weaving through the neon-lit streets, interrogating bewildered passersby and rummaging through trash cans like treasure hunters on a quest.

After what felt like hours of wild goose chasing, we finally struck gold – or rather, wallet. It had somehow found its way into a karaoke booth, snug between the cushions like it was playing hide-and-seek.

With my belongings safely back in my possession, I bid farewell to my newfound friends, their laughter still ringing in my ears as I made my way home through the bustling streets of Tokyo.

Sure, it was a rollercoaster of a night, but that's the beauty of living abroad – every misadventure is just another chapter in the book of life, filled with laughter, friendship, and the occasional lost wallet.

Thank you for checking up on me. How about you all? What has everyone been up to?
