What 'happiness' means to me!

Weekly Topic: International Day of Happiness! One thing that makes you happy...

Are you someone who radiates joy? Periodically, newspapers inundate us with surveys gauging the satisfaction levels of different countries' residents. Yet, a fundamental issue arises: what exactly constitutes happiness? Is it synonymous with contentment, love, satisfaction, or joy? Survey results vary, reflecting the ambiguity surrounding the concept of happiness.

In an endeavor to unravel this enigma, researchers have delineated various forms of happiness. Firstly, there's pleasure, characterized by fleeting moments of delight like sharing a hearty laugh at a joke or savoring a decadent chocolate cake.

Another dimension of happiness is engagement, wherein individuals immerse themselves in beneficial activities, such as pursuing a hobby they cherish or fostering positive relationships.

Additionally, there's the aspect of meaning, wherein one experiences a profound sense of purpose in life, leveraging their skills and abilities to accomplish meaningful goals.

Age also plays a pivotal role in influencing happiness. Contrary to common assumptions, studies have revealed a positive correlation between aging and happiness. Despite potential health concerns, the elderly often grapple with fewer interpersonal conflicts or frustrations, perhaps due to retirement alleviating the stresses associated with work.

Regardless of scientific findings, happiness ultimately remains a personal choice and responsibility. Embracing a positive outlook and acknowledging the silver linings amidst life's challenges can significantly contribute to our happiness.

Amidst our increasingly frenetic lifestyles, marked by burgeoning material wealth, researchers advocate for the prioritization of pleasure. This might entail indulging in leisurely activities such as basking on a tranquil beach, reveling in a lively dance session with friends, or simply relishing a peaceful moment with a cup of tea and an engrossing book.
