Very often Italian people use dialect expressions, idiomatic expressions, or proverbs when they are speaking. I'm sure you have already noticed it in movies and songs. I do it every time with my friends and my family and also on formal occasions when I feel it's necessary ;)

Italian is changed a lot with time and keeps evolving. It will be fascinating to discover this process and be able to understand even Italian literature and poetry.
