Introduction to Punctuation

A short explanation of punctuation marks used in the English language.

Description

Punctuation is very important in making sense of both the written and spoken word. For example the sentence "He went to the river caught a big fish and took it home to his loving wife they had a wonderful supper" will make a lot more sense written this way: "He went to the river, caught a big fish and took it home to his loving wife. They had a wonderful supper."

Punctuation marks help us structure sentences properly, and also help us clearly understand a written text.

In this lesson I will introduce you to the major punctuation marks used in the English language. You will learn the name and purpose of each major punctuation mark. You will also learn how to make use of them in sentence construction.
