8 French idioms about food

Idioms are present in every language and they are always very confusing for the beginners.
French idioms are so many that today I decided to teach you some idioms about food. 


Les carottes sont cuites ! 
Translation : The carrots are cooked.
Meaning : There is no hope

Mettre du beurre dans les épinards
Translation : To put butter in the spinach
Meaning : To top up your income

Avoir du pain sur la planche
Translation : To have bread on the bread board
Meaning : To have a lot to do on your plate

Une planche à pain
Translation : A bread board
Meaning : flat-chested

Etre soupe au lait
Translation : To be milk soup
Meaning : To be short-tempered

Avoir la moutarde qui monte au nez
Translation : To have mustard that goes up the nose
Meaning : To lose your temper

Mettre son grain de sel
Translation : To put in your grain of salt
Meaning : To put in your two cents
